5 Reasons Why Your Website is Hurting Your Credibility

Part Two

Credibility is all about relationships. It’s about trust. In fact, the term is only meaningful within the confines of human relationships. According to Webster, “Credibility is the quality or power of inspiring belief.” So, if it’s only meaningful within the confines of human relationships, what does it have to do with website design? Unfortunately, for far too many small businesses, it doesn’t. It doesn’t, because they have no identity.

The Good The Bad & The Hideously Ugly

If I land on your page and see nothing about your personality that appeals to me – guess what? I have no basis for believing in you. You have zero credibility. In fact, I could care less. I can’t click out of your sight quickly enough to scrub my eyeballs.

Bad website design frustrates users on every level. Landing pages are a distraction with little purpose except to seemingly impede visitors from making a purchase. Content is poorly written, non-sequitur and disorganized.  Typography has no relationship to identity. Color schemes are non-existent, ugly or fly against known psychological buying behaviors. Visual imagery is half-hazard, non-relational and unprofessional.

Still using flash? Still using “hip” nondescript headers? Are you “avant-garde” black? Does your website look like a cartoon on steroids? Well it shouldn’t, unless you’re Disney.

All of of those things say something about your identity. In three words it says: “I don’t care.” God help you if you’re actually in the care industry.

Marketing Is Dead

Good website design starts with identity. It starts with looking at the values, qualities and character traits that are key to you, your company and your demographic. If you’re a tattoo artist you need to appeal to your audience. You need to resonate with them immediately. They need to land on your page and say: “Hell yeah!”

More often than not, people are looking at website design like a print marketing piece. We’re here to tell you that print marketing is dead. Small business is all about relationships. If you’re putting yourself out there in the market place it needs to be you you’re putting out there. People hear all the time they need to offer something unique and they need to differentiate themselves. Right off the bat, you’re what’s unique about your business! Not a caricature of you – not an anecdote of you – not a predesigned “template” of you. It needs to be the real you.

If you’re ready for a relationship give us a call today. Our custom website design is identity-based from the ground up. We leverage who you are to promote your identity and grow your business.
